Dear American Academy Kindie Prep Parents,

It's already September! Two weeks done, and the kids and I are settling in nicely and we’ve had an amazing start to our year! 

What We Are Learning: 

Literacy: 

In September we will begin learning to identify our first names and trace the first letter in our names. Once we have mastered the first letter we will move onto the full name. We will also begin learning the first letter sounds and recognition of the Core Knowledge Language Arts Curriculum: Ll,Tt and Ii.  

Math: 

We will begin the Scott Math. We will begin learning how Rote count to 5 as well as write, and identify #’s 0,1 and 2. Identifying four basic shapes: circle, square, triangle and rectangle.  

Theme:

Our themes for this month are All About Me, Family and Friends, Five Senses and Body Parts and Fall. Our Classic Tale for this month is “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”  

Reminders: 

September Homework Calendar: 

Calendars will be sent home in your child’s Friday folder this week! Please help your student complete 8 of the activities on the monthly calendar. Attach any papers you do to the calendar. Color the box when your child has completed that activity. If your child would like to do more than 10, that is fine. Homework can be turned in by the end of the month. Please help your child practice writing their name. That is the biggest skill all of the students need to practice at this time. Homework is not mandatory; it is optional. 

Arrival Time:

As a reminder, we begin our day at exactly 8:30am. Please try to have your child here before 8:30am to complete their Morning Work as well as to be ready for the start of Circle Time and learning that has already begun. We also need to get an accurate lunch count for the lunch people. Thank you for your understanding. 

Red Folders: Please make sure to return your child’s Red Friday folder every Monday. Have your child put it in their mail box, so I can put their worksheets as well as any important information in it during the week. Please also make sure you take all papers out of their red folder before returning it to me. The children work really hard on their assignments during the week and love to go over them with you.

Check In/Out & Hot Lunch: 

Please make sure you bring your phone in with you to scan the QR code that is on top of the cubbies to check your child in/out for the day. Please also make sure that you are choosing hot lunch on the app if needed.  If you have any issues with the SmartCare app, please make sure you stop by the Kindie Prep Front Desk.

Reminders:

• With the weather starting to become cooler in the a.m., please make sure you are sending your child with a light jacket as the morning recess can be chilly. 
• Please remember to label everything that belongs to your child (water bottle, lunch container, jackets, etc.). 
• Please make sure to provide any utensils your child may need for snack or lunch time (i.e. spoon or fork). 
• Please make sure you bring a crib size sheet for your child for Rest Time.
