WELCOME to KINDIEPREP!

Dear Families,

Welcome to KindiePrep at American Academy! The school year is gearing up and I am happy to be sharing it with you and your child. The first year of school is always exciting as we become familiar with friends and establish new routines. I hope that together we can help your child have a successful KindiePrep experience!

Communication is key in my classroom! Please feel free to email me at [email protected] if you have any questions of concerns. Be sure to fill out the Student Contact Sheet and Student Questionnaire to ensure that I have all important information regarding your child. My web page can be found on American Academy’s Website and it is here where you will find important information. My email will be the best way to get ahold of me. Please allow 24 hours for responses as I am busy teaching during the day.

IMPORTANT CLASSROOM INFORMATION:

Lunches: We eat lunch at 11:45 in our classroom. Your child may either bring his/her lunch from home or buy lunch from our cafeteria. If your child orders hot lunch, it will be brought to him/her in the classroom. If a sack lunch is brought to school, please have your child’s name on it and place it in the lunch bucket. Also, please be sure you are providing your child with the appropriate eating utensils, as we do not have any in the classroom. We also do not have the ability to hear up lunches so please keep this in mind when you pack your child’s lunch.

Snack: We have a morning and snack and an afternoon snack daily. should be something that they are able to open independently. Please have your child’s name on their snacks. Please place your child’s snacks in the AM Snack bucket and the PM Snack bucket which will be placed on top of the cubbies. If your child stays for After Care, please bring an additional snack with their name on it and place it in the After -Care Snack bucket on top of the cubbies. Also, your child needs to bring a  labeled water bottle to school every day. He or she will place their water bottle in the bucket inside our classroom as part of their morning routine. Please bring water bottles that are not easily spilled. We do not have a drinking fountain in the classroom, so the water bottle is the only way for your child to stay hydrated throughout the day.

Blue School Bags: Your child will be given a blue bag with his/her name on it. This bag is to be used in place of a backpack. Your student will use the bag to bring their lunch, snacks, extra clothing, Friday Folder, and is especially important that this bag is brought to school on Fridays as this is the day when school work from the week and sheets and blankets will be sent home to be washed.

Rest Time: Your child will need to bring one blanket and a crib sheet to fit over a mat for naptime. The blanket and sheet cannot be larger than crib size ( no large blankets, comforters, no pillows). Our classroom is small and has limited space for mats to be spread out. We are required to have a certain amount of space between mats and when a child brings a large blanket to school, it makes it very difficult to allow for the required spacing.

Friday Folders: Friday Folders are sent home on Fridays. The folder will have all of your child’s work from the week. It is essential that the Friday Folder itself be emptied of all contents and returned promptly on the following Monday of each week. I need the folders back in order to refill them with the next week’s class work. Thank you in advance for being responsible in getting folders back to me each week.

Extra Clothing: Please bring a full set of extra clothing to leave in your child’s cubby. This clothing needs to follow dress code (navy blue bottoms, white, red or navy blue tops). Be sure there is at least one pair of pants, socks, underwear, and a shirt with the extra clothes.

First day of school and each day to follow: Every morning you will need to sign your child in to class, the QR Code is located outside my door above the cubbies. Please be sure you are also marking the correct lunch option. If your child brought their lunch or needs a hot lunch please indicate this this when you are signing your student in for the day. Once you have signed your child in, it’s time to say a quick goodbye. Quick goodbyes are best as they allow your child to settle in and get their day started. Due to Tri-County rules, parents MUST remain OUTSIDE  the classroom during drop-off. Once you have said goodbye to your child, they will enter the classroom on their own, put their water bottle in the water bottle bucket, wash their hands at the sink and do Morning Work.

Absences: Please email me at [email protected] if your child will be arriving late to school or is they will be absent for the day.

**School doors open at 8:10 and we will promptly begin at 8:30. It is essential to your child to be on time! If they are late, they are missing out on important fine-motor and academic skills used during Morning Work.

I am looking forward to getting to know your kiddos and to having a fun-filled year with them!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Lagerstrom
